Hong Kong welcomes 32.5 million visitors in first 11 months of 2010

Hong Kong welcomed a record 32.48 million visitors in the first 11 months of 2010, more than the total for the previous year, the tourism board announced Tuesday 28/12/10.

Visitor arrivals through November were 22.5 per cent higher than for the corresponding period of 2009, according to figures released by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

In November alone, Hong Kong welcomed 3.05 million visitors, 17.1 per cent more than November 2009, the board said.

Visitors from mainland China accounted for 20.4 million of the 32.48 million visitors during the first 11 months, up 26.7 per cent on the same period in 2009, according to the figures.

Arrivals from India jumped 47.2 per cent year-on-year through November to nearly 490,000. Arrivals from Russia doubled over the same period, the tourism board said.

Hong Kong welcomed a record 30.5 million visitors in 2009. Visitor numbers have climbed annually since restrictions on cross-border travel from China were substantially eased in 2003
